Speaking at the Young America’s Foundation’s 39th annual National Conservative Student Conference in Washington, D.C. Tuesday, Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah told the group of young conservatives that he is pleased with President Trump’s first six months in office.

His remarks were significant, considering that Lee was extremely skeptical of Trump during the presidential campaign season.

While speaking at the conference, Lee was asked to comment about his earlier critical stance against Trump.

He responded, “I took a position at the time that was taking place because I had certain ideas about whether he could get elected. I didn’t think he could. I turned out to be wrong.”

Continuing, Lee stated, “He has since been elected President of the United States and, in so far as he fights to restore constitutionally limited government, I will be there with him every step of the way … helping him.

“So far, that’s what he’s been doing. And I say, keep it coming because that’s what we need.”

Lee said he was especially impressed by President Trump’s words in his inaugural address, when he declared that power would be transferred “from Washington, D.C., back to the American people.”

The following is a video of Lee’s speech at the event. The senator comes to the stage at around 13-minute mark.
