Gov. Chris Christie and his family and friends enjoyed the deserted beach at Island Beach State Park on Sunday. The state owns a house on the 10-mile barrier island that the governor can use. According to NJ.com, the six-bedroom house has views of the Atlantic Ocean and a guesthouse facing the bay. The home is guarded by state police, who are on duty during the shutdown, according to WKXW.
Public beach goers were turned away from entering the park, but the governor was permitted to enter because the governor has a residence at Island Beach. Christie told the the Philadelphia Enquirer reported that if people don’t like what he’s doing then they can run for governor and take over the residence on Island Beach State Park.
