Govt. gives Elon Musk approval for revolutionary infrastructure project

Elon Musk says he can reduce the congestion of the highly-populated northeastern United States without overtaxing already crumbling infrastructure and reduce travel time between Washington D.C. and New York to a mere 29 minutes.

His new innovation? A hyperloop that eliminates air resistance and friction allowing a pod containing passengers to reach futuristic speeds.

Such a project requires billions of dollars to construct the network of tunnels through which the pod would travel, as well as the government’s approval, all of which Musk claims he has.

“Just received verbal govt approval for The Boring Company to build an underground NY-Phil-Balt-DC Hyperloop. NY-DC in 29 mins,” the billionaire inventor and entrepreneur tweeted Thursday afternoon. “City center to city center in each case, with up to a dozen or more entry/exit elevators in each city.”

It was unclear which government Musk received approval from, and for now, he’s keeping it a secret.

“Still a lot of work needed to receive formal approval, but am optimistic that will occur rapidly,” is all Musk said after getting a mass of inquiries into who gave him approval.

The U.S. Department of Transportation referred inquiries to the White House, which acknowledged Musk’s tweet but wouldn’t engage in specifics.

“We have had promising conversations to date, are committed to transformative infrastructure projects, and believe our greatest solutions have often come from the ingenuity and drive of the private sector,” a White House spokesman said.

Skeptics challenged Musk’s lack of transparency, saying he brought up the project prematurely to bid up financial support. He turned his nose up at the criticism, tweeting back, “Support would be much appreciated!”
