Gowdy comments on special counsel Mueller

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), the new chairman of the House Oversight Committee, sounded much like Ben Carson did on Friday when expressing his confidence in special counsel Robert Mueller.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Gowdy had only positive things to say about Mueller, despite GOP concerns he is politicizing the investigation.

“I do have confidence in [Mueller]. I have confidence in the women and men he has assembled on this team,” Gowdy said, describing the special counsel as “the quintessential straight arrow.”

Gowdy also said that due to the nature of the Russia investigation and his position within the House Oversight Committee he hasn’t developed a relationship with President Trump.

His comments come at a time where his party has questioned Mueller’s neutrality, and the validity of relentless intel leaks that are affecting the investigation.

Gowdy is replacing former oversight chair Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) who abruptly retired this week, but previously had strong words regarding leaks.
