A toddler has drowned along with her grandfather, who jumped into a neighbor’s backyard pool in Maryland to try to save her.

Lemuel Kane, 51, and his granddaughter, Aryannah Wooten, 4, were pulled from the bottom of a pool in Severna Park on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities said neighborhood children were swimming in the pool on Jamar Drive at 1:30 p.m. when Wooten, who couldn’t swim, went into the deep end.

Kane jumped in after Wooten in an effort to rescue her but struggled to do so because he also could not swim.

Reportedly, the other children ran to the girl’s great-grandmother, who discovered the two motionless at the bottom of the pool and called 911.

First responders pulled Kane and Wooten from the pool and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where they were both pronounced dead.
