Hallmark is adding a new line of cards to their “LGBTQIA” section – they now have cards especially for people who are “transitioning” from one gender to another.
One of the new cards under the section “Encouragement: Gender/Transitioning” is a picture of a butterfly, with the quote, “You’re becoming who you’ve always been,” and on the inside it says, “How wonderful is that?”
Glamour reported on Hallmark’s response to the new cards:
“It is our goal to be inclusive rather than exclusive so that our products appeal to the widest range of people who wish to communicate and connect with one another,” a representative from Hallmark told Pink News. “Not every card Hallmark offers will be right for every relationship, but we want every consumer to find one that is right.”
Glamour reported that a UCLA School of Law study claims one in every 137 teens is transgender, and they are at a higher risk of depression and anxiety – but research suggests that if they are given “support and affirmation at an early age,” the risk is reduced.
