Hate-crime Hoax: Sibling Blames Media and NYPD for Exposing Muslim Sister’s Lie

Yasmin Seweid, 18-years-old, has been charged with falsifying a report, telling NYPD that three men called her a ‘terrorist’ and chanted ‘Donald Trump’ as she boarded a subway on Dec. 1.

Yasmin Seweid claimed the men called her a ‘terrorist’ and targeted her because she is Muslim. Later. She later admitted to making up the story after police found no evidence. She was arrested and charged for lying to police officials on Wednesday and arraigned at a Manhattan Court early Thursday, reports DailyMail.

According to NBC 4 New York, Seiwed admitted to fabricating the story because, “she had been out drinking with friends” and wanted to avoid getting into trouble with her strict father for staying out too late.

Now her sister has posted a long rant against the New York Police for getting involved.

An interesting turn of events:

“The sister of a Muslim teenager (Sara Seweid) accused of lying to police about being abuse by Trump supporters has blamed the NYPD for the scandal, arguing they should never have pursued the case.”

Sara, 23, took to Facebook on Thursday not to condone her younger sister’s  behavior, but to sound off against media and the police with the following statements:

‘The NYPD should never have been involved in the first place even if the incident did happen.

‘It became super clear to me the police’s first instinct is to doubt your story and to try to disprove it.’

‘Deeply concerned’ about young Muslim women who feel they ‘have to lie so intensely’ to survive.

‘My sister may have lied but she has dealt with an insurmountable amount of violence and trauma both publicly and privately these past two weeks.’

Her Facebook full posts can be seen below:

brotherShortly after Yasmin’s run-in with the NYPD, it was later exposed that her brother Abdoul was “arrested in 2012 for telling police a friend of his had been assaulted. He was later charged with breaking into cars to steal their valuable contents,” reports Jennifer Smith at DailyMail. Abdoul can be seen covering his younger sister’s head as they left court in the video above.

Parents of Yasmin have declined to comment about the incident, though NYPD has confirmed she faced one count of falsifying a police report and obstructing government administration this past Thursday, says DailyMail.com.
