PAKISTAN — Being rescued after five years of forced prostitution following a kidnapping by her own relatives, a 17-year-old from Peshawar was unable to enjoy her freedom for very long. Police in Mattani reported that they recovered the body of a female only identified as Kainnat from the bottom of a well located on the property of the family home. Police arrested her brother Qaisar Khan for shooting her, and then disposing of her body.

Officials added that the body appeared to be many days old and was in a state of decomposition. Khan apparently shot Kainnat in an Islamic ‘honor’ killing because she engaged in sexual relations with various men during her ordeal.

Taken by relatives at the age of 12, Kainnat was sold several times and forced into prostitution, according to residents of the town where the family is from.

Her father ultimately found her five years after she was taken, and the police were able to return her to her family safely. She identified the relatives who kidnapped her but they were not charged with any crime.
