Thanks to a tipster who saw pictures on social media and alerted Phoenix police, a heavily armed man was arrested and taken into custody Thursday inside the Phoenix Convention Center.
The 30-year-old man, who was dressed in all-black, and wearing body armor, was armed with a knife, three handguns, a shotgun, and ammunition. He had reportedly posted pictures on social media of officers at the event, threatening to kill Phoenix police officers.
Police said it was evident he came to the event prepared for a shoot-out. His identity has not yet been released.
The Phoenix Comicon event has allowed costumes and prop weapons into their event as long as they were screened by security and the tip of any prop gun was painted orange.
However, since the arrest of the armed man, all prop weapons have now been banned from the convention for Saturday and Sunday.
It is unclear how the suspect made it past security with his stash of real weapons.
This is a developing story.
