In response to a tweet put out by actress Mira Sorvino after learning that disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein derailed her career, Jason Priestley revealed the reason why he once punched Weinstein in the face at a Miramax party in 1995.

Sorvino expressed her ‘heartbreak’ via Twitter on Friday after learning from a tweet by journalist Rebecca Falconer of NZStuff that Weinstein had derailed her career by blacklisting her after she rejected his unwanted advances.

According to an article published by NZStuff, Peter Jackson said that people at Miramax had talked him out of using Sorvino and Ashley Judd in his “Lord of the Rings” movies. Looking back, Jackson said “I realize that this was very likely the Miramax smear campaign in full swing.”

Actress Tara Strong responded to Sorvino’s tweet, writing, “Heartbreaking….wouldn’t be surprised if this happened to my good friend @Jason_Priestley who punched Weinstein in the face at a club one night. Go Jay.”

Then the “Beverly Hills, 90210” star joined the conversation, tweeting this about an altercation he had with Weinstein at a Golden Globes party back in 1995: “I pushed him back and punched him with a right hand to his face.”

When a follower asked if there was “more to the story,” Priestley obliged by tweeting out a play-by-play of what happened.
