KENTUCKY — A 15-year-old high school basketball player was working on drills with his teammates right before he collapsed in the locker room and died, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Lisa Deffendall, a Fayette County schools’ spokeswoman, told the Herald Star Ifeacho had just left the court when he collapsed.

“Star had stopped shooting baskets and was with the athletic trainer when he collapsed in the locker room,” Deffendall said. “The athletic trainer immediately provided emergency care, including CPR, and the use of the AED (automated external defibrillator), while 911 was called. When paramedics arrived, they took over his care and transported him to the hospital.”

Ifeacho’s teammates expressed their sadness on social media.

“I seen so much potential in you…i wanna let you know i love you boy your name is star for a reason shine bright on us,” senior Taveion Hollingsworth wrote on Twitter.

“Damn bruh I’m gnna miss u, can’t believe u gone,” Kaelen Whiteside wrote.

The cause of Ifeacho’s death is still not known. An autopsy will be performed on Thursday.
