Hillary Clinton doesn’t intend to let anyone forget it wasn’t her fault she lost the 2016 presidential election.
According to sources who spoke with The Hill, her new book will feature two main excuses for her loss: Russia and James Comey.
Reportedly, Clinton has told friends that she “wants the whole story out there.” Her story, of course, is that former FBI Director James Comey’s letter to Congress detailing that he’d received intelligence of more email chicanery by Clinton’s camp just days before the election swayed swing voters toward Trump. That narrative has been beaten to death, first and foremost by Clinton herself, who will go to the grave clutching those precarious excuses.
But Clinton has since been all but abandoned in mounting a defense of her loss by leading figures on the left, with congressional Dems telling her to step aside. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) completely dismissed her framing of the loss.
“When you lose to somebody who has a 40 percent popularity, you don’t blame other things — Comey, Russia — you blame yourself,” Schumer told The Washington Post. “So, what did we do wrong? People didn’t know what we stood for, just that we were against Trump. And still believe that.”
However, Clinton couldn’t care less about the weakness she is foisting upon the image of the Democratic Party in her feeble attempts to salvage her historical reputation. She wants the story out there despite how desperate it makes her look.
“She really believes that’s why she lost, and she wants to explain why in no uncertain terms,” a source who claimed to be a longtime ally told The Hill.
Clinton’s doubling down on the Comey-Russia narrative, while cementing her as the self-serving egomaniac liberal voters refused to believe she was, is simultaneously extremely frustrating for Democrats trying to lead the Party forward in 2018.
As Schumer tries to rebrand the Party as a “better deal,” hammering home the notion that this is separate from the Trump administration and its embroilment in the Russia probe, the previous symbol of the Party is writing a book to keep those topics in the forefront of liberal voters’ minds.
