Attorney General Eric Holder recently said President Barack Obama is ready to get back to work.
According to Politico, Holder said he has been talking with Obama about ways to help the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) in ways that would help Democrats get a leg up in state houses and the House of Representatives.
“It’s coming. He’s coming,” Holder told reporters. “And he’s ready to roll.”
It appears Obama has been working quietly behind the scenes with Holder to, first, take on what they believe to be a disadvantage in gerrymandering. Politico reports Democrats ultimately want to work on redistricting which will give them an advantage in future elections.
The group met this week to discuss ways to implement strategies that will more accurately reflect the “popular vote.”
Holder told reporters that Obama “will be a more visible part of the effort,” according to Politico.
Marc Elias, NDRC’s official attorney, added that the group plans to wage legal challenges to existing district maps and file lawsuits in 2017.
