Blue Bloods actor and New Kids on the Block singer Donnie Wahlberg had servers at a Waffle House “screaming and cheering,” and not just because they were elated to meet the star, but because he left a hefty tip intended to make them feel special.
According to a Facebook post, Wahlberg stopped by a Waffle House location in Charlotte, NC where the staff treated him “like a King,” so he returned the favor.
He wrote: “My mom waited tables, and my dad tended bars– for years! So, when I walk into a #WaffleHouse, and the staff treats me like a king, you better believe I treat them like queens! Thanks to the team at @wafflehouseofficial Charlotte, NC!”
In the picture accompanying the post, Wahlberg’s receipt shows he left a $2000 tip on the $82.60 check.
Fans of Wahlberg — some who went to the restaurant specifically to see the star after an earlier Facebook live video revealed he was there — say the staff was still reeling from the generosity.
“Our sweet waitress was still shaking as she delivered our coffee,” Allison Kalama told reporters.
During the Facebook Live video, Wahlberg tells a waitress that she and her mom would receive tickets and backstage passes to see New Kids On The Block’s Thursday show.
“Jasmine, I’ll see you tomorrow! Tell your momma. Bring momma now!” he says in the video.
The thoughtful demonstration of good will is not a singular event. Wahlberg has made other appearances at Waffle House locations. He’s been known to tweet out his visits and has even uses his servers names, personally acknowledging them.

Kalama was lucky as well. She was able to get a few selfies with Wahlberg, and she didn’t even have to ask. She reports that he approached her group and initiated the photo session, using her friend Shiela Dorton’s phone.
“I know him to have a huge heart and incredibly generous with both his time and affection,” Kalama said. “And apparently now his wallet as well.”
For curious readers, witnesses say Wahlberg ate waffles, hashbrowns and coffee.
