During a Friday interview on “Fox and Friends,” Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly honored his son in a Memorial Day tribute, calling him the “finest man I ever knew.”

Kelly said of his son, 2nd Lt. Robert Kelly, “Finest guy. Wonderful guy. Wonderful husband. Wonderful son. Wonderful brother. Brave beyond all get out.”

“His men still correspond with us,” Kelly said. “They still mourn him as we do.”

Kelly also said, “What Memorial Day, in my mind, is good for, is for America to remember the many men and women over our history who have given their life for this country in combat.”

In 2010, Robert Kelly, 29, was killed in a roadside bomb explosion during a foot patrol in the Helmand province of Afghanistan. John Kelly was appointed as the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security in January.
