A 66-year-old man who was a father, grandfather and former missionary lost his life in a horrific car crash in Indianapolis, and an illegal alien has been arrested for causing the crash.
Early Monday about 2:30 a.m., David Kriehn’s car was hit from behind on Interstate 465 at a high rate of speed, sending his car skidding off the interstate and tumbling over and over into a ditch.
Elizabeth Vargas-Hernandez, 35, was the drunken driver driving the SUV that hit Kriehn’s vehicle. According to police reports, she hit him from behind at a high rate of speed, without even leaving a skid mark on the highway.
Neither the suspect nor any of her three passengers were injured, and officials suspect that they had just left a bar. She reportedly smelled of alcohol and failed a field sobriety test.
According to police reports, the suspect is an illegal alien and has never had a driver’s license.
WTHR NBC13 News reported that the Marion County Sheriff department “does not routinely notify federal authorities when suspected undocumented immigrants are arrested and jailed for serious, unrelated crimes.”
A spokesman at the sheriff’s department reportedly said, “Arrests are public record. ICE has access to the arrest records. MCSO does not address immigration status/issues.”
Kriehn was a manager of a local restaurant, Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que, where he had just finished his shift, completed doing inventory, and was on his way to his home in Noblesville.
