An undocumented immigrant, who was awaiting sentencing in Houston, TX for killing a man two years ago, cut off his ankle monitor and has fled the country.
Jose Luis Hernandez, 22, was expected to appear in court on Thursday but never showed up, prosecutors say. Hernandez was last known to have met with his lawyer on Tuesday, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office reports.
In 2014, prosecutors say Hernandez and his accomplice, Frank Marinero, 23, lured Bryan Blanco, 17, to Sharpstown Park on Harbor Drive using a fake Facebook profile. When Blanco arrived at the park, Marinero shot and killed him.
“He was just a 17-year-old innocent kid who got killed over a girl. It’s not justice for our family,” the victim’s aunt laments.
Hernandez pleaded guilty to participation in the Dec. 27, 2014, murder and was awaiting sentencing. Marinero was previously convicted and sentenced to 99 years in prison.
Authorities acknowledge Hernandez, who’s a Mexican national, may be heading to Mexico.
Anyone with information on Hernandez’s location is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
