An illegal alien who served 15 years in prison for Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer was arrested on Friday when he attempted to again enter the United States illegally.
Eliseo Franco-Ornelas, 60, was detained, along with three others, south of Van Horn, Texas, approximately 100 miles west of the Presidio Port of Entry.
Analysis of Franco-Ornelas’ fingerprints revealed his criminal history to border agents.
“This is another high-profile arrest that stresses the importance of technology, combined with an adequate amount of agents and infrastructure,” Big Bend Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Boatright said in a statement.
Franco-Ornelas was charged with Aggravated Felon Re-Entry and is being held at the West Texas Detention Facility in Sierra Blanca.
Franco-Ornelas was arrested in the Border Patrol’s Big Bend Sector which leads to the Interstate 10 corridor, where immigrants are often picked up and then disappear into the United States.
On Nov. 18, Agent Rogelio Martinez and his partner were found with traumatic head injuries in a culvert off I-10. Martinez’s injuries proved fatal but his partner recovered, having no memory of what occurred during the assault on himself and Martinez.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to Fox News.
