On May 2, llegal immigrant Juan Prieto was awarded a $500 grant from UC Berkeley’s Robert J. and Mary Catherine Birgeneau Recognition Award for Service to Undocumented Students, which assists undocumented campus students who are unable to receive federal financial aid.
He later showed his appreciation by announcing on Twitter, “Let’s celebrate 5 de Mayo by going to Dolores Park and beating the shit out of white people, in the spirit of La Batalla de Pueblo,” in reference to a battle in Mexico in which the Mexican army defeated French occupiers.
The Daily Caller News Foundation reached out to Prieto, who has since locked his Twitter account, to ask about his tweet publicly encouraging race-based acts of violence. “It’s Twitter,” said Prieto to The DCNF. “I post dumb shit on Twitter all the time. Aha. But I see how this fits into your agenda, and no matter what I say, you’ll write your article so that I continuously get threats for the next two weeks until white supremacist [sic] have another person of color to attempt to silence via virtual bullying.”
A self-described “pessimistic hoe,” Prieto’s Twitter profile celebrates his status as an illegal alien. He proclaims, “I’m an atheist because heaven has a border, and fuck borders” on his profile.

An English major, Prieto posted his speech at the Chancellor’s Awards for Public Service ceremony to his Facebook profile urging everyone to “break laws.”
Crossing the border illegally as a child, Prieto learned early from his parents how to live in constant fear of the authorities. A fan of the Black Lives Matter movement, Prieto said, “We’re facing a very violent presidential administration that is set on its path to destroy the families that [President Trump] promised he would destroy.”
He concluded his speech by declaring, “Anyway, this illegal faggot is ready to steal your jobs–and your men.”
