“Sanctuary Cities” Protect Criminals While Endangering Everyone Else
Michael W. Cutler, Senior Special Agent, INS (Ret.)
America’s immigration laws are comprehended within the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) and were enacted to protect national security, public safety, public health and the livelihoods of American workers.  Those laws do not make any distinctions about race, religion or ethnicity.
One of the sections of law under the INA is Title 8 U.S. Code § 1182 that enumerates the grounds for excluding aliens from the United States.  Among the categories of excludible (inadmissible) aliens are aliens infected with dangerous communicable diseases, suffer from extreme mental illness and are prone to violence, aliens who are criminals, human rights violators, war criminals, spies or terrorists. Finally that list also includes aliens who would likely become public charges or provide unfair competition for American workers and would either displace American workers or cause suppression of wages and have a deleterious impact on working conditions.
The need to enforce our immigration laws should be understood and supported by all Americans and all American politicians irrespective of political orientation.  However, today radical leftist politicians have taken to calling for the termination of immigration law enforcement and have created so-called “Sanctuary Cities” and “Sanctuary States” to ostensibly protect “immigrants” from immigration law enforcement officers.
Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York State has vilified ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents by referring to these valiant federal agents as “thugs.”
That sort of dangerous rhetoric and betrayal has led to a huge increase in the number of agents who have been physically assaulted and, undoubtedly has had a deleterious impact on cooperation with ICE by folks who have information that could help to uncover human trafficking rings and unscrupulous employers who hire and exploit illegal aliens.
Exploitation of the vulnerable is anything but “compassionate.”
In reality, lawful immigrants are granted their lawful status by immigration authorities.  Indeed, the U.S. grants such status on roughly one million aliens each year- more than the rest of the world combined.
Aliens who are lawful present in the United States need no protection from immigration authorities.  The only aliens who face arrest and deportation (removal) are aliens who enter the United States without inspection or violate their terms of lawful admission after they are admitted into the United States, frequently by committing serious crimes.
Page 54 of the official report, 9/11 Commission Staff Report on Terrorist Travel contained this excerpt under the title 3.2 Terrorist Travel Tactics by Plot:

Thus, abuse of the immigration system and a lack of interior immigration enforcement were unwittingly working together to support terrorist activity. It would remain largely unknown, since no agency of the United States government analyzed terrorist travel patterns until after 9/11. This lack of attention meant that critical opportunities to disrupt terrorist travel and, therefore, deadly terrorist operations were missed.

Sanctuary cities hobble and obstruct the enforcement of our immigration laws from within the interior of the United States and encourage still more aliens from around the world to run our borders or otherwise enter the United States illegally, confident that they will be shielded from detection by living in those anarchistic jurisdictions.
Indeed, under Title 8, U.S.C. § 1324, it is a felony to aid, abet, encourage or induce aliens to enter our country illegally or to conceal, harbor or shield aliens who are illegally present in the United States. That same section of law deems any concerted effort to commit those crimes by working in concert with others to be guilty of conspiracy to violate the immigration laws.
In reality, Sanctuary Cities should be labeled “Magnet Cities” because they attract aliens whose presence poses a clear threat to our safety and well being.

  1. Where can a person go in this Country and not have to worry that their State is going to become another horrible place to live. I am actually starting to feel hopeless!

  2. Every American should read this & Force our government officials to follow the law! No sanctuary cities/states!

  3. Enforcing immigration laws has become a farce. It does give a feeling of hopelessness when the elected officials do not follow the obligations to provide security for the American citizen under law. I truly believe, as others, that this Presidential election in 2020 will make or break America…and it is terrifying! Dennis Michael Lynch in 2024, I pray it won’t be too late!

  4. WHY AREN’T THESE POLITICIANS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH AIDING CRIMINALS!!! WHY DO THEY GET TO BREAK THE LAW???? THEY NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE OR THEY WILL ONLY GET BOLDER!!!!!!!!
IM SICK OF THE THE BLANTANT BREAKING OF OUR LAWS AND THE ARROGANCE OF THESE PEOPLE!!!!
