In India, a charity organization recently held a ceremony to name a village after President Trump, much to the chagrin of Indian officials.

Sulabh International, which builds pit toilets throughout India to promote better sanitation, unofficially changed the small village’s name from Maroda to ‘Trump Sulabh Village’ on Tuesday, as children waved photos of Trump and signs reading, “Our Trump Village Will Be Clean!”

Mani Ram Sharma, the district’s deputy commissioner, offered a different account of the events.

“We repeatedly asked them not to hold this event, but they did not listen,” said Sharma. “They did not ask for any permission, and none would have been given if they had.”

The Daily Caller reports that despite village elders giving the charity permission, officials claim the renaming of a village is illegal. The signs and billboards, as well as the “elder approval,” were reportedly fabricated by the organization.

“It was all fictitious and a fraud event by the organizers aimed at collecting money across the country and abroad,” Sharma said, demanding that police tear down the signs.

However, some villagers continued to celebrate enthusiastically.
