A four-month-old baby girl was found dead inside a van at a motel parking lot.

Brooklyn Ruth Irby was found on Sunday in the parking lot of Motel 6 in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She was immediately rushed to a local hospital.

Authorities say her mother called police at 10:28am to report that her little girl was not breathing. The pair had been living in the van with Brooklyn’s father and grandfather since falling on hard times, relatives later revealed.

Once at the hospital, doctors pronounced the infant dead. An autopsy is due to be concluded on Monday.

Montgomery County Police Department is investigating the incident. No arrests have yet been made but members of the girl’s family are being questioned.

Captain Paul Starks told reporters the department was awaiting the results of the baby’s autopsy before it would pursue any charges.

“Hopefully we can get some information from that and put the community at ease,” he said.
