Inmates at a Chicago area jail facility recently cheered a man who, last week, shot and killed a police commander execution style.

Shomari Legghette, a repeat offender, shot Chicago Police Cmdr. Paul Bauer six times in broad daylight in the middle of downtown Chicago last Wednesday. Bauer had responded to a call for assistance from fellow officers who were pursuing Legghette, who had run from them during a drug bust. Bauer caught up with Legghette, who pushed him down a short flight of stairs then shot Bauer in the head, neck and chest as he lay on the landing.

As Legghette was being led away from his bond hearing on Thursday, he passed a group of Cook County inmates who were awaiting their arraignments. Recognizing Legghette as Bauer’s alleged murderer, the inmates applauded and cheered for him.

The incident was captured on video and can be viewed below.
