Iran Retaliates Against Trump’s Visa Ban

One day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order excluding nationals of seven predominately Muslim countries from entering the United States, Iran countered with similar measures.

On Saturday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry released a statement declaring its intentions to match Trump’s visa limitations by banning visitors from the United States.

“While respecting the American people and distinguishing between them and the hostile policies of the U.S. government, Iran will implement the principle of reciprocity until the offensive U.S. limitations against Iranian nationals are lifted,” read the Foreign Ministry statement.

The ministry’s statement carried on by saying, “The restrictions against travel by Muslims to America… are an open affront against the Muslim world and the Iranian nation, in particular, and will be known as a great gift to extremists.”

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani appeared on Iranian television this afternoon indirectly speaking against Trump’s plans to build a border wall along the United States’ southern border.

“Today is not the time to erect walls between nations,” Rouhani said. “They have forgotten that the Berlin Wall fell years ago.”
