Iran states they will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine

The Iranian parliament held a vote on Wednesday that would require the government of Iran to recognize Jerusalem as the rightful capital of the Palestinian people, an Iranian news agency reported. The vote’s tally had 207 officials in support of the measure, with no one opposing it.

Earlier this month, President Trump recognized Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and announced that the American embassy will move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This was met with hostility from the United Nations.

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution urging the US to alter the decision, which was promptly vetoed by U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley. Muslim and Arab countries were highly opposed by the U.S.’s decision.

Israel, however, was enthusiastic over the declaration. Transportation Minister Israel Katz announced that a train station will be built by the Western Wall and will be named after the American president.
