ISIS planning to poison foods at US grocery stores

ISIS has wreaked havoc on areas of the world by imploring followers to utilize vehicles in terrors attacks. Now, they could be implementing a new weapon: poison.

U.S. intelligence officials have uncovered evidence that the group could be advising lone wolf jihadists in the US to use poison to infiltrate grocery stores.

ISIS has been releasing a series of English-speaking propaganda videos meant to advise lone wolf jihadists in the west on potential terror tactics, and poison has come up in the latest edition, Newsweek reports.

“In the third part of an English-language series promoting lone-wolf jihad in Western countries, potential attackers are advised to inject food for sale in markets with cyanide poison,” U.S.-based jihadi monitoring group SITE Intelligence reported.

Furthermore, a graphic on ISIS’s popular communication channel, the encrypted messaging app, Telegram, reads: “First method: poison.”

ISIS has implored its followers to engage in more secretive methods of mass killing for years and poison has been mentioned before. One US case points to jihadist Amer Sinan Alhaggagi, a 22-year-old man from San Francisco who had spent time in Yemen. He has been alleged to support ISIS and purported to want to “redefine terror” in the Bay Area.

In his 2016 court hearing, it was revealed he had spoken to experts about lacing designer drugs with rat poison in order to distribute them across clubs in the city. He was caught when seeking information from an undercover agent about mixing the highly-toxic pesticide strychnine and cocaine.

It was reported in July that a Lebanese ISIS follower was detained for attempting to release noxious gas on a flight from Australia to the United Arab Emirates.

However, in Iraq, the group has gone even further, testing poisons on prisoners in experiments likened to those carried out during the Nazi era.
