Ivanka Trump will accompany President Trump to Saudi Arabia and participate in a roundtable discussion during an event focused on economic issues faced by women.
According to a senior White House adviser, Ivanka Trump is eager to learn more about the issues affecting women in Saudi Arabia. The visit will pose challenges, since Saudi Arabia is notorious for having poor relations in the field of women’s rights. In fact, the country is ranked 141 out of 144 countries for gender parity by the the World Economic Forum’s 2016 Global Gender Gap Report.
The appearance marks the second overseas event in which Ivanka Trump will address gender issues. In April, she appeared on a panel in Germany alongside Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The first daughter will join her father on his first overseas trip as president, with planned stops in other countries like Israel and Italy.
The trip comes amid domestic controversies faced by the Trump administration regarding the president’s dismissal of former FBI Director James Comey and the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
