Jennifer Aniston to play lesbian president in Netflix’s ‘First Ladies’

Jennifer Aniston is set to play America’s first female president in an new Netflix film — but the story has a twist. Aniston’s character is married to a woman who is serving as first lady.

Netflix announced Friday that it acquired the political comedy “First Ladies” following a competitive bidding war. The film will co-star comic Tig Notaro as Aniston’s wife. According to a Netflix news release, “When Beverly and Kasey Nicholson move into the White House, they’ll prove that behind every great woman… is another great woman.”

The Hill reported that Notaro pitched the concept for the movie along with her wife Stephanie Allynne, who is an actress.

Netflix noted that Notaro and Allynne are writing the film, and will produce it along with Aniston, Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Betsy Koch for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Chris Henchy will be the film’s executive producer.

The deal expands Notaro’s relationship with Netflix, with her original comedy special “Tig Notaro Happy to Be Here” debuting on the streaming service on May 22. She is also scheduled to direct Ellen DeGeneres’ upcoming Netflix original comedy special.

“First Ladies” represents Aniston’s second collaboration with the studio, having recently signed on to star opposite Adam Sandler in “Murder Mystery.”

Aniston was seen at a 2016 campaign fundraiser for Hillary Clinton, and posed for a selfie with the failed Democratic presidential nominee.

A release date has not been announced for “First Ladies.”
