Jill Stein included in Russia-Trump Jr. investigation

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein is now being added to the widening probe into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Jill Stein was included in a letter sent by the Senate Judiciary Committee, requesting all communications involving Donald Trump Jr. and a number of Russian officials, as well as many of then-candidate Trump’s campaign aides.

The panel also requested documents pertaining to Don Jr.’s meeting with a Russian attorney and “all communication to, from or copied to you relating to” an extensive list of individuals that included Stein’s name.

The letter sent by the Senate Committee, dated July 19th, states:

“We expect that you have already taken care to preserve relevant documents in light of investigations into Russian interference being conducted by Congress and federal law enforcement and counterintelligence agencies.”

It also requested that relevant documents and communications be submitted by August 2nd.

One Green Party member claimed that Stein’s inclusion in the letter was “vengeance against Dr. Stein for running as a third-party candidate for the White House.”

Upon being notified that the ever-widening probe now includes her name, Stein took to Twitter to post the notion she was involved in any Trump Jr. conspiracy was “laughable,” noting that such a claim is intended as a “smear” to feed the fake news obsessed press.

At this time, the only publicly known tie between Stein and the investigation into Russian officials involves a dinner back in Moscow during late 2015 that included Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Stein claims the three had minimal interaction. A photo of the three of them at the dinner table reportedly surfaced on social media, but there is no evidence that Stein was involved in any kind of Russian plot to interfere in the election.

The dinner was revealed as part of an investigation into Flynn’s conversations with a Russian diplomat that sparked controversy before he resigned earlier this year.

No specific reason has been given yet as to why the panel requested that Trump Jr. turn over records involving any communications he had with Stein.
