Jim Carrey Hit with Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Popular actor and comedian Jim Carrey was served a lawsuit by the former husband of his deceased girlfriend, Cathriona White. The husband, Mark Burton, filed the wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, accusing the actor of providing prescription drugs to White, which resulted in her fatal overdose back in September 2015. White and Carrey dated on and off since 2012.

Allegedly, Carrey illegally obtained Ambien prescriptions and the powerful opioid oxycodone under an alias, Arthur King. Carrey would then give the drugs to White, who had a drug problem and was suffering from depression. A few days later, White was found dead in one of Carrey’s homes with a suicide note.

The Ace Ventura actor has publicly railed against the lawsuit, saying it’s a “heartless” attempt to exploit him and get his money. He has vowed to fight the case filed by Burton, and released the following statement:

“What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world. I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”
