Revealing that his son was born with a heart defect last week, comedian Jimmy Kimmel of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” used his TV show last week to tug at heartstrings as he begged Congress to reconsider repealing and replacing Obamacare.  He was immediately criticized by many for using his child’s health to push his liberal ideologies.

Last night, Kimmel facetiously announced, “I saved health insurance in the United States of America!” Then he gave the audience a confused look. “What’s that? I didn’t save it? They voted against it anyway?”

Kimmel said, “I made an emotional speech that was seen by millions, and as a result of my powerful words on that night, Republicans in Congress had second thoughts about repeal and replace.”

Noting that his son is doing well, Kimmel sarcastically said, “I’d like to apologize for saying that children in America should have healthcare. It was insensitive, it was offensive, and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”

Kimmel went after former Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich for saying this past weekend that doctors will do everything they can to save a baby and will not request payment first. “Yes, it is true that if you have an emergency, they will do an operation. And that’s terrific if your baby’s health problems are all solved during that one visit,” he said, adding, “the only problem is that never, ever happens.”

Kimmel pointed out that his son’s surgery requires extensive care, listing, “You’ve got a cardiologist, the pediatrician, surgeon, and some kids need an ambulance to transport them. That doesn’t even count the parents who have to miss work for all this stuff. Those details, Newt forgot to mention. I don’t know if the double layers of Spanx are restricting the blood flow to his brain.”

After narrowly through the House, the GOP’s new healthcare bill is now in the hands of Senate Republicans, who will make significant changes to the legislation before it goes to a vote.
