In a Sunday appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” with host Chuck Todd, former Secretary of State John Kerry compared President Trump’s suggested renegotiation of the United States’ role in the Paris climate change agreement to accused murderer O.J. Simpson attempting to find “the real killer.”

Kerry said that Trump contending that he would renegotiate the Paris Accord is “like OJ Simpson saying he’s gonna go out” and “find the real killer.” Following a highly publicized and polarizing trial in 1994, Simpson was acquitted for the murders of his ex-wife and her friend.

In 2007, Simpson was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping and is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence.

Under Kerry’s supervision, the Department of State led the crafting of the Paris agreement requiring countries to create self-imposed limits on greenhouse gas emissions which would be increased every five years.

Kerry also asserted on MSNBC that Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris agreement would mean that “kids will have worse asthma in the summer.”

Kerry also contended that the withdrawal put America “last” and made the U.S. an “environmental pariah.”
