Following the story that was published Thursday evening by the Washington Post, of allegations of sexual misconduct against Republican U.S. Senate candidate Judge Roy Moore (Al.), two GOP lawmakers have withdrawn their endorsement.
Posting on Twitter just two minutes apart Friday evening, Sen. Mike Lee (Utah) and Sen. Steve Daines (Mont.) both said they now cannot support Moore, although Moore has insisted that the allegations are false.
Lee posted his statement first, saying, “Having read the detailed description of the incidents, as well as the response from Judge Moore and his campaign, I can no longer endorse his candidacy for the US Senate.”
Daine then re-tweeted Lee’s announcement, and then posted his own statement, saying, “I am pulling my endorsement and support for Roy Moore for U.S. Senate.”

Friday morning, former presidential candidate Mitt Romney also came down hard on Moore, stating on Twitter, “Innocent until proven guilty is for criminal convictions, not elections. I believe Leigh Corfman. Her account is too serious to ignore. Moore is unfit for office and should step aside,” Romney said in a Twitter post on Friday morning.”
According to an exclusive report by The Washington Post, a woman identified as Leigh Corfman has come forward to report that Moore sexually molested her in 1979, when she was 14 years old and he was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney.
Moore has denied the allegations, calling the story “intentional defamation” and “fake news.”
