During an interview on Fox News Channel, Judge Andrew Napolitano said the president’s comments about how he would deal with North Korea were “over the top.”

A favorite among Fox News viewers, Napolitano’s comments were made in reference to Trump saying the U.S. would use “fire and fury” when dealing with North Korea’s aggressive behavior.

Napolitano offered his own strategy on how to deal with North Korea, saying, “I’d starve them out.”

The judge said that Trump’s comments, if taken literally, mean nuclear war. “That sort of thing puts our allies at risk.”

The legal analyst admitted he has no military experience, and said he respects the president and respects his judgment, but he thinks Trump’s “fire and fury” statement only feeds into Kim’s crazy ways of thinking. “You don’t fight fire with fire in this situation.” He continued, “The language was so over the top that it will encourage this crazy nut [Kim].”

Napolitano said the president’s words cannot be literally accurate. “If he means we are going to use more force and power than the world has ever seen, he [Trump] means stronger than Nagasaki and Hiroshima. He can’t possibly mean that … he’s not going to kill innocent North Koreans.”

The judge said Trump has access to U.S. intelligence that he does not have; therefore, there could be more to the story than the public realizes. But even so, he doesn’t understand why Trump would provoke Kim. “I think he can channel this guy back with one phone call to the president of China,” said Napolitano.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson tried to calm the nerves of Americans who fear we are on the brink of nuclear war. Tillerson told reporters, “Americans should sleep well at night.” Tillerson said he sees no imminent threat from North Korea. His comments came hours after North Korea’s military warned of a possible attack on the tiny island of Guam.
