In addition to Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) announcing on Friday that he will join forces with Senators Cruz, Paul, Lee, and Wilson in rejecting the Senate healthcare bill in its current form, House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) said the bill will not have enough support to pass the House of Representatives if left unchanged.
Senate Republicans intend to vote on the legislation next Thursday, before leaving for the Fourth of July recess. If it somehow passes, the House will need to either pass the bill or go to a conference committee to negotiate changes.
The issues with the bill go beyond the Freedom Caucus. The 28 members of the House Republican Study Committee warned Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that four major points needed to be addressed, including ending Medicaid expansion after 2020 and repealing all of ObamaCare’s taxes.
The Republican Study Committee is the largest bloc of conservatives in Congress.
