New York City cop Miosotis Familia, 48, was “assassinated” early Wednesday morning while sitting in her marked patrol car. NYPD commissioner James O’Neill called the killing an “unprovoked attack.”
Officials said the attack occurred in the Bronx just after 12:30 a.m. while Familia was sitting in the vehicle with her partner. The partner reportedly radioed for help while other officers spotted the suspect.
Familia died at an unidentified hospital later on, and her suspected killer died during a separate confrontation with police when he was found running a few blocks away.
An uninvolved bystander was injured during that incident.
The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Alexander Bonds. Bonds drew his revolver on police before they began shooting, authorities claim.
Officials so far are unaware of any connection between Bonds and Familia, a 12-year NYPD veteran.
