Reuters reported Monday that Donald Trump Jr. has hired attorney Alan Futerfas, following reports he met with a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer to discuss information on Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign that surfaced this weekend.
Futerfas will attempt to protect Trump Jr. from the heat he is taking from congressional officials, as some are calling the act treason, and will advise him in the event the Justice Department’s Russia probe comes knocking on his door.
Don Jr.’s account of the meeting amounts to a lot of smoke but no fire, as he was told he would see “an individual who I was told might have information helpful to the campaign”, who turned out to be Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, but ended up talking only of Russian child adoption.
“Happy to work with the committee to pass on what I know,” Trump Jr. tweeted Monday.
