JUST IN: FOX News cancels ad campaign calling for Trump’s impeachment

Tom Steyer, the Democratic mega-donor who launched a $10 million television ad campaign calling for President Trump’s impeachment, has hit a snag – Fox News has just canceled his ads after receiving complaints from viewers.

CNN’s Brian Stelter posted the announcement on Twitter Monday afternoon, stating, “Fox News confirms: “Due to the strong negative reaction to their ad by our viewers, we could not in good conscience take their money.”

Steyer has blasted the decision, tweeting out Monday: “Fox News trying to silence the 1.7 million who have already signed our impeachment petition.”

On Oct. 31, Steyer admitted that Fox News had informed him they would not be airing the ad, entitled “Join Us,” and claimed their decision “shows no respect for democracy.”

“Millions of Americans have raised their voices in opposition to Donald Trump,” Steyer said in a statement released on Friday. “If Fox News is siding with Trump and trying to silence us, they must be afraid of what we have to say. It shows no respect for democracy.”

Politico reported Monday afternoon that Steyer’s attorney, Brad Deutsch, sent a memo on Nov. 3 to Fox News co-president Jack Abernethy, slamming the network for “breach of contract.”

Deutsch wrote that FOX’s decision to pull the ads marked “a profound failure of journalistic integrity, a suppression of constitutionally protected speech, and likely a consequence of inexcusable political pressure.”

Steyer spent $90 million trying to elect Democratic candidates and stop Trump during the 2016 election season, only to see Donald Trump win the presidency and Republicans win control of both the House and the Senate.

In one ad, Steyer claims that “this president is a clear and present danger who is mentally unstable and armed with nuclear weapons.”

“Wacky & totally unhinged Tom Steyer, who has been fighting me and my Make America Great Again agenda from beginning, never wins elections!” Trump tweeted about Steyer on Oct. 27.
