JUST IN: Iran launches airstrike against ISIS in Syria

According to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s website, the group claims to have launched airstrikes into eastern Syria on Sunday.

The Guard said it launched surface-to-surface medium range missiles into Syria’s Deiráel-Zour province, targeting Islamic State militants.

The Guard claims it was responding to an attack by Islamic State militants on Iran’s parliament and a shrine in Tehran. The referenced incident involved gunmen and suicide bombers who launched a deadly attack against Iran’s parliament and a shrine in early June, leaving at least 12 people dead. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.

The statement on the Guard’s website said the strike came from its bases in western Iran, that many “terrorists” were killed and that weapons had been destroyed. Iran warns that it will retaliate after any attack against its state.
