JUST IN: New report claims Trump enlisted Coats to interfere in Comey investigation

According to a report by The Washington Post Tuesday, President Trump enlisted Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats to intervene in former FBI Director James Comey’s probe into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

The report states Trump wanted Coats to intervene in the FBI’s ongoing investigation of potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

During a briefing with several government agencies, Trump required everyone to leave the room except for Coats and CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

Officials familiar with the incident at the White House told the Post that the president had concerns with the FBI’s investigation and Comey’s handling of it. He then requested Coats to interfere. Coats reportedly discussed the situation with other officials, ultimately deciding Trump’s request was inappropriate.

Coats will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday. Comey is expected to testify before the committee on Thursday.

*NOTE: The report was originally claimed, yet not proven, by The Washington Post. Until Coats’ testimony Wednesday morning or until White House confirmation, this report is still just a claim. More developing.
