JUST IN: Senate Judiciary Committee opens probe into Loretta Lynch

Leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee are taking another look at Hillary Clinton’s email scandal and allegations of “political interference” surrounding the investigation of the case.

Was there collusion between the Justice Department and the FBI? Did then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch interfere in the investigation?

Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Terrorism Subcommittee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), ranking member Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and ranking member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) have reportedly sent letters requesting information about the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

The Washington Examiner reported that the letters were sent to former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Leonard Bernardo of the Open Society Foundations (a George Soros group), the OSF general counsel Gail Scovell, and Clinton campaign staffer Amanda Renteria.

The committee is reportedly looking into allegations that the FBI obtained “hacked documents.”

The senators stated, “The reports come amidst numerous allegations of political inference in controversial and high-profile investigations spanning the current and previous administrations. The Senate Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over the FBI and Justice Department and is obliged to oversee any potential misconduct or inappropriate political influence at these agencies.”

The letter notes that the New York Times had made a claim that one document written by a “Democratic operative who expressed confidence that Ms. Lynch would keep the Clinton investigation from going too far.”

Also, the letter mentions The Washington Post reported a similar story alleging that then-Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz had told Leonard Bernardo, an official with the Open Society Foundations, “Lynch had privately assured Renteria that the FBI’s investigation wouldn’t go too far.”

The four senators express concern about Comey’s testimony, when he admitted, “And then the capper was — and I am not picking on the Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, who I like very much. But her meeting with President Clinton on that airplane was the capper for me, and I then said, ‘you know what? The Department cannot by itself credibly end this.'”

The letter has been released in full by Kelly Cohen of the DC Examiner:
