JUST IN: Trump won’t visit UK without public support

President Donald Trump told British Prime Minister Theresa May over the phone that he won’t move forward on his planned trip to the UK later this year, unless he gains public support.

Trump’s hesitation to visit comes after he went after the mayor of London, Saadiq Khan, on Twitter following the London terror attacks. It wasn’t received kindly by the British and Khan is anything but open to the idea of the President visiting.

“I don’t think we should roll out the red carpet to the president of the USA in the circumstances where his policies go against everything we stand for,” Khan said in an interview with Britain’s Channel 4.

Thus until the threat of protest subsides, Trump will avoid the UK on his international excursions. Of course, Khan believes that is okay for the time being:

“When you have a special relationship it is no different from when you have got a close mate. You stand with them in times of adversity but you call them out when they are wrong. There are many things about which Donald Trump is wrong.”
