JUST IN: Two top aides to Ambassador Haley resign

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley confirmed Wednesday night that two of her top aides have resigned, Bloomberg and The Hill reported.

The resignations include Chief of Staff Steven Groves and Communications Director Jonathan Wachtel. Haley responded to a report on the matter in a tweet, citing “family concerns” in the statement.

“Both Jonathan&Steve have recently encountered family concerns. They will always be a part of the team & dear friends,” she said.

On Tuesday, Trump retweeted an article from the “Fox & Friends” Twitter feed that Haley later told reporters contained classified information, while appearing caught off guard about the intelligence being made public. The report cited US Intelligence officials with knowledge of the situation saying that despite the recently-passed sanctions, US spy satellites have detected North Korea moving anti-ship missiles onto a patrol boat.

When asked about the development, Haley condemned the fact that the information was out, and made a point of being ignorant of the source, referring to it as a “newspaper,” when it was a report by the very network on which she was being interviewed.

“I can’t talk about anything that’s classified. And if that’s in the newspaper, that’s a shame. I have no reason to comment on it,” she said on Fox News.

Haley has been exceeding expectations in her conduct at the UN National Security Council, considering she garnered bipartisan praise for her efforts in getting Russia and China to vote yes on strengthening sanctions against North Korea.
