UPDATE: Father of NY Terror Suspect Called FBI on Son Two Years Ago

The father of New York terror bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami has admitted he reported his son to the FBI two years ago, and they did nothing.

Tuesday, Mohammad Rahami, Sr. spoke with reporters outside his family-owned business, First American Fried Chicken, where he lives in an apartment above the business.

According to Daily Mail, Mr. Rahami said in broken English that two years ago he called the FBI and told them, “My son, he’s doing really bad.”  But, he said the FBI checked into his son and cleared him of any suspicion of terror.

He said he was afraid Ahmad might be radicalizing, because of his violent outbursts, including incidents when Ahmad stabbed his other son, Nasim, and hit his wife, hurting her.    “Because he doing bad, he stab my son and hit my wife. I put him in the jail,” Mr. Rahami said.

“For no reason, because he stabbed my son and hit my wife.  And I took him to jail two years ago.”

Daily Mail reports that documents indicate Mohammad Rahami Sr. and Ahmad’s mother, Najiba, were separated. When references are made to Rahami Sr.’s wife, she is not referred to as Ahmad’s mother.

It has also come out that Ahmad Rahami’s mother traveled to Turkey three weeks before the terror attack, and has not returned.

Then, just days before the bombings, Ahmad’s wife (who he married in Pakistan) left to return to Pakistan.   Reportedly she was stopped by authorities in the United Arab Emirates, and it is unclear whether she was allowed to continue on to Pakistan or is still being held.

The fact that his mother and wife both left the country before Ahmad’s bombing attacks raises questions about how much they knew about his plan in advance.

Sunday night, it was reported that five other family members were pulled over on the highway and taken into custody, as it was assumed they were on their way to the JFK Airport.  However, they were released on Monday without being charged.

In another revelation, Tuesday it was reported that a notebook was found on Rahami when he was arrested, which contained writings by him about the Muslim cleric Anwar Awlaki, who has been the inspiration for many homegrown U.S. terrorist attacks.

From Daily Mail:

Authorities say Rahami has made at least three trips to Afghanistan. He also visited Pakistan, where he met and married his wife.

Authorities told CNN that Rahami had spent a year, between 2013 and 2014, in Pakistan where he traveled to the city of Quetta – a hotbed of extremism. While there he stayed with family in refugee camps, authorities confirmed. He also visited Karachi in 2005, and an unknown region in 2011.

The most recent trip took place in 2014, when he petitioned NJ congressman Albio Sires to help him get his then-pregnant wife a visa. Rep Sires says he wrote to the U.S. embassy in Pakistan and was able to speed up the process for Rahami’s wife, whose passport had expired.

Despite his heavy travel to and from the Middle East, officials said that Rahami was not on any terror watch lists.
