The father of a Muslim-American soldier killed in Iraq, who spoke at the Democrat National Convention, is an immigration lawyer who specializes in a visa program that allows immigrants to effectively buy U.S. citizenship with an E-2 or EB-5 visa.
Khizr Kahn has been blasting Donald Trump for wanting to wanting to halt immigration from Muslim nations that have links to terror. Even House Speaker Paul Ryan has jumped on the band wagon, claiming it is wrong to apply a “religious test” for immigrants.
In reality, Trump’s policy on immigration has the potential to impact Kahn financially. Khan’s website states that he helps clients with the E-2 and EB-5 programs, which allow foreign investors to buy into U.S. companies. The programs also provide green cards for family members. The website also states that he assists with purchase of U.S. real estate and businesses.
Jessica Vaughn, the policy director for the Center of Immigration Studies, said, “The E-2 and EB-5 are two of the most notoriously abused visa categories that essentially allow wealthy foreigners to buy their way to U.S. residency, and possibly citizenship, with a relatively modest investment.”
Washington Examiner reports that there have been multiple scandals surrounding the EB-5 program, and critics are calling for Congress to end it. It allows wealthy immigrants to invest $500,000 in an approved business – in return they get green cards for their spouse and all children under 21 years of age.
Vaughn said, “The EB-5 is literally a ‘citizenship for sale’ program in which a visa for a whole can be bought for as little $500,000. It is literally a ‘citizenship for sale’ program, and it’s an amazing deal. Compared to other countries, America is the Walmart of investor visa programs.”
