Khizr Khan and wife Ghazala Khan became headline newsmakers for their speech given at the Democratic National Convention in July.  The Khans heavily criticized Donald Trump for his proposal to place a temporary ban on all Muslims and challenged him to read the Constitution.  Ever since that night in Philadelphia, the Khans have been making press appearances to voice their dislike for Donald Trump, and have called for Republican leaders to denounce the billionaire as the GOP nominee.  The Khans are the parents of the Muslim soldier, Capt. Humayun Kahn, who died in Iraq.  According to the Detroit Free Press, the two are expected to visit Dearborn, Michigan to receive an award from the Arab American Civil Rights League.

Khizr Khan and wife Ghazala Khan will be honored at the group’s ‘Fight for Justice’ event in Dearborn on Sept. 29.

“We wanted to honor them because their son gave the ultimate sacrifice, dying for his country,” Nabih Ayad, an attorney who founded the league, said Tuesday. “We hear all the election rhetoric and ridiculous comments going on about Muslim Americans, presidential candidates talking about excluding Muslim Americans from this country. He’s speaking out against the bigotry and hate that has clouded a lot of our mainstream political discussion.”
