Kiddie satanic club granted tax-free status by IRS

The IRS was found to be “delinquent” in its handling of tax-exempt applications by conservative groups but only took 10 days to process and eventually approve one by an ‘After School Satan Club.’

Sommerville, Massachusetts based Reason Alliance, a non-profit organization that operates in the state of Washington as the Satanic Temple of Seattle, submitted their application for tax-exempt status to the IRS. Its director, Lilith X. Starr, founded the club at Point Defiance Elementary in Tacoma, Washington.

Five-to-12-year-old children are the focus of the club, which is run by “caring Satanists” and, according to the documentation, is “intended to develop character, problem solving, critical reasoning, and other qualities.” A pencil with devil horns is the club’s logo.

The club was created as a “direct response” to Christian-based Good News Clubs, according to a report by the Washington Free Beacon.

Records show that the application was submitted on October 21, 2014 and granted on October 31, 2014.

A 2015 Senate report concluded that the IRS under the Obama administration did anything but process certain applications that fast.

“Our investigation found that from 2010 to 2013, IRS management was delinquent in its responsibility to provide effective control, guidance, and direction over the processing of applications for tax-exempt status filed by Tea Party and other political advocacy organizations,” the bipartisan committee wrote.
