In North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un’s latest purge, the tyrannical leader is believed to have executed the three sons of “martyr” figure and former soldier O Jin-u.

The military elitist led Korea’s Ministry of People’s Armed Forces and served as a key advisor to former leaders Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il. He died in 1995, though he is still celebrated by the North Korea people to this day.

O Jin-u’s three sons – Il-hun, Il-jong and Il-su – have seemingly disappeared. According to Seoul-based newspaper JoongAng Ilbo, an anonymous government official has revealed that the men have vanished and are suspected of being victims to Kim Jong-un’s wrath.

The men are around 60-years-old in age, but most senior officials in the authoritarian government retire in their 70’s. Professor Kim Yong-hyun, of Seoul’s Dongguk University, theorizes their prominent power in the regime likely posed as a threat to Kim’s position, hence their plausible execution.

It is likely the three sons have been added to Jon-un’s growing purge list, which also includes his own executed stepmother.
