Kim and Kanye set to welcome new baby via alternate method

After two successful but potentially life-threatening pregnancies, reality TV star Kim Kardashian is turning to surrogacy in order to have a third baby with husband, singer Kanye West. According to new reports, the two have already secured a surrogate who is carrying their baby, and the child is due at the end of January.

Kim, who recently said she wants to share her political opinions more often in the future, was diagnosed with placenta accreta during both of her prior pregnancies. The condition, which is potentially life threatening, occurs when the placenta attaches too deeply into the uterine wall. During labor, the condition could lead to severe hemorrhaging.

In November of last year, Kim expressed a desire to have a third baby during an episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” According to Kim, doctors said there would be many risks associated with another pregnancy.

“If the two doctors that I trust have told me it wouldn’t be safe for me to get pregnant again, I have to listen to that,” she said on the show.

During an April episode, she addressed the issue again.

“I’d love nothing more than to expand my family and just know that I have this world at home that’s safe,” she said referring to her family. “And if for some reason I left this earth sooner than I really wanted to, then my kids would have a support system at home — so that I know that they would be okay if I wasn’t here.”

But she later lamented, “I can’t carry any more kids… it’s the worst. I give up.”

She also discussed the idea of surgery during the episode, saying Kanye was nervous about the related surgery, but that she knew he also wanted additional children.

“I feel like surrogacy is the only option for me. Kanye and I are going to look into other options and see what we are comfortable with … but I’m definitely leaning towards [surrogacy],” she said during the episode. “I always knew surrogacy was an option – now it’s my reality. Whatever is meant to be will be.”

Apparently, both of Kim’s sisters, Khloe and Kourtney, as well as her friend Chrissy Teigen, offered to be her surrogate.

TMZ, however, reported Wednesday that the Kim and Kanye have opted to pay for a surrogate. According to the gossip news site, they’ll pay $113,850 for a surrogate who is currently progressing in the pregnancy normally. People is reporting that Kim spent months trying to find the ideal surrogate, and finally found “the perfect candidate.”

Already happily parenting daughter North, 4, and son Saint, 21 months, Kanye, Kim, and the entire family are reported to be “over the moon” as they prepare for the new arrival.

“They want everything to be perfect and for the baby to be extremely healthy,” an insider reportedly told People. “They don’t want any complications and Kim is providing an ideal eating regimen and diet so everyone knows what the baby is consuming before it’s born.”

According to TMZ, Kim’s ideal regimen includes limiting the surrogate from engaging in activities dangerous to her child. During the pregnancy, the woman is prohibited from smoking, drinking, doing drugs, using hot tubs, using hair dye and eating raw fish. She also can’t go near cat litter, and can only have one caffeinated beverage per day, all reasonable requirements as obstetricians generally suggest these limitations to their pregnant patients.

The surrogate mother will earn most of the $113,850. According to TMZ, the surrogacy deal constitutes 10 monthly installments of $4,500, to equal $45,000, after an initial deposit of $68,850, all paid through a surrogate agency. If the pregnancy produces more than one child, the surrogate will receive an another $5K per extra child.

Kim and Kanye apparently “assume the legal and parental responsibilities for any child… that may possess any congenital or other abnormalities or defects,” TMZ reports.

In addition to her health concerns, Kim has admitted that she didn’t like being pregnant. On her website, she explained: “I’m gonna keep it real: For me, pregnancy is the worst experience of my life!”

She said she hated the way her body changed, the way her clothes fit and said pregnancy can be “disgusting.”

“I don’t feel sexy, either — I feel insecure and most of the time I just feel gross,” Kim previously revealed about her view of pregnancy.

With the surrogate pregnancy entering its second of three trimesters, she’s well on her way to reaping the rewards without the toll it takes on her body and state of mind.
