Letterman’s take on President Trump

If he was still the host of “The Late Show,” David Letterman said he would definitely be making all sorts of jokes about the man he disparagingly calls “Trumpy,” according to a recent Vulture interview, as reported by The Hill.

“The idea of Twitter: Trumpy … my son, Harry, and I call him ‘Trumpy,’ has really got something with it. Rather than a laughable expression of ego run amok, it could be a useful tool,” Letterman said, admitting that he doesn’t really know how to use social media. “If we get a president sometime soon who does not have a mental disorder, Twitter will be useful.”

The president’s feud with Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), who is known for being a civil rights advocate, was “heartbreaking” for the former talk show host, he claimed.

“He’s ignorant in a way that’s insulting to the office, insulting to America, insulting to human rights, insulting to civil rights, insulting to John Lewis,” charged the comedian, angrily. “Trump saying that broke my heart. I thought, ‘You stupid son of a bitch. You ought to have known better than that.”

Democrats all recalled how “Lewis received a skull fracture while marching in a peaceful protest across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in 1965, a day that is remembered as ‘Bloody Sunday.'” Letterman fired off an angry joke about the situation, saying, “Lewis goes down there and gets a goddamned skull fracture. I mean, Trumpy will never have to worry about a skull fracture because of the hair.”

Resorting to the often-used line, “How do you know if Donald Trump is lying? His lips are moving,” Letterman said, adding that if he still had a show, he wouldn’t be able to stop going on about Trump. “[P]eople would have to come and take me off the stage. ‘Dave, that’s enough about Trump. We’ve run out of tape,’” he joked.

Stephen Colbert took over as host of “The Late Show” in 2015 when Letterman retired after 33 years.

The following is one interview of Trump on David Letterman’s show many years ago, where they discussed the state of the nation and the possibility of Trump one day getting into politics.
